Daniel Martins is a songwriter, music producer, and composer for film and television. He is also one half of the electro-pop duo 12xPretty. Based on Vancouver Island, Daniel works with artists and bands across genres—collaborating, co-writing, and producing both in studio and remotely.

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Daniel’s roots lie in rock and alternative bands, evolving into industrial, hip hop,  and electronic music as his career grew. While classically trained through the Royal Conservatory of Music, he also immersed himself in the underground hip hop scene, producing for local artists and rappers. His diverse influences are reflected in his genre-spanning style.

Early in his career, Daniel interned at the boutique film and television production house MainlineMedia, under the mentorship of Brent Hodgins. There, he began composing for song libraries and TV theme music, eventually landing the lead composer position on the documentary film "The Opus" —an experience that sparked his enduring love for cinematic sound. Upon relocating to Vancouver Island, he expanded into remix culture, producing award-winning remixes for international artists while continuing to compose for Canadian filmmakers and theatre companies.

A key turning point came when Daniel connected with Jordan Dack (aka Remy Remy), a fellow Calgary musician. Their shared vision and work ethic led to a creative partnership that became 12xPretty—a songwriting  duo that secured a record deal and continues to release original music while writing for other artists.  It was during this magical time, Daniel was branded as "Danny Import".

Today, Daniel’s music can be heard in documentaries, short films, animated features, and theatrical productions. His approach to songwriting is deeply visual, a direct result of his background in film scoring. Whether working on an atmospheric score or a hook-driven pop or hip hop track, Daniel brings cinematic depth and storytelling to every project.
